With election season upon us again it is a good time for a little refresher on the placement of political signs within the City of Owasso.

Political signs can only be placed on private property and can only be placed with the permission of the property owner. Signs cannot be placed within city right of way, within city properties or within highway right of way. So what this means for you is that your sign should only be placed in your yard, on your business property, or on another person’s private property with their permission.

A general rule of thumb is that you should place your sign in your yard between the house and the sidewalk. your sign should only be placed in your yard, on your business property, or on another person’s private property with their permission.

To find information on where your property line is try using the following resources: a mortgage survey that you received when you bought your home, county land records, or the City of Owasso GIS available at http://www.cityofowasso.com/.

If you think a sign is illegally placed, please call the City of Owasso. Residents should not take it upon themselves to remove signs from City right of way.

For more information please contact the Code Enforcement division of the Community Development Department at 918-376-1500.
